The World Health Organization in the African Region, as the technical agency and custodian of public health in the Region, seeks to further galvanize political commitment, foster collaboration and align strategic priorities in advancing the health agenda in the Region, especially around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
WHO’s Regional Office for Africa (AFRO) is convening the first ever Africa Health Forum in Kigali, Rwanda on 27 – 28 June 2017 to highlight the importance of addressing the challenges and opportunities for effective health service delivery and policy priorities. Under the theme of “Putting People First: The Road to Universal Health Coverage in Africa”, the two-day event will deliberate on improving health security, progress towards equity and Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and the unfinished agenda of communicable diseases while exploring the new Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets, and tackling social and economic determinants of health on our continent.
At the official opening of this Forum,Kigali government thanks WHO for having chosen Rwanda to host that important Africa Health Forum.This choice is taken as another proof that WHO recognizes Rwanda’s efforts aiming at impoving health standards and providing an efficent and productive workforce,said Anastase MUREKEZI,Prime Minister.
This forum in Kigali is also the occasion for Rwanda to share with other countries the benefits of Mutuelle de Santé/Community-Based Health Insurance(CBHI)as the first african innovation in Universal Health coverage.Indeed,CBHI covers 84.6%(2015) of the entire Rwandan population.They will learn how to achieve 100%..
